PASTELS: World Market Trend Report

I recently blogged about the resurgance of an 80's trend, GOLD, returning as a current design element in fashion and interior design. Another "80's flashback" in interior design trends is PASTELS.

(Photos in this blog are from this year's Las Vegas Market.)

"In today’s interiors, pastels are back and in a big way! Whether you are thinking of giving your interiors a makeover or just adding some pastel touches to your textiles – there is a wonderful emergence of pastels in interior design." - freshhome

Pantone has described Spring 2015 colours as ‘en plein air’, with a move towards the cooler and softer side of the spectrum, including a selection of gentle pale pastels. “Remembrances of retro delights, folkloric and floral art, and the magical worlds of tropical landscapes restore a sense of well-being as we head into warmer months.”

"This year we’ll be seeing a diversity of colour. Our attention has settled gentle colours like muted pastels, smoky shades of grey, soft neutrals, metal hues, rich leather and marine tones along with, at the opposite end of the spectrum, vibrant jewel and fruit colours. Paint colours for the home still revolve around sophisticated basics with preference for cleaner whites, smokier neutrals and updated muted pastels. Feature (accent) walls are out. Zone painting schemes are in, and beige is a thing of the past." - Tucker&Negus

"I'll be looking back to the pastel palette of LA in the 80's...0ptimistic color combinations of orange and purple sunsets, green palm trees, aqua pools, and pink flamingos. It's a muted palette with shocks of neon--Monet meets Molly Ringwald." - Christos Prevezanos

"Laura Ashley never fails to inspire with their long-time love of gentle colours and chalky pastel tones. Their 2015 predictions are for “candy coloured hues” and “fun motifs.” They create pastel looks that work in any room of the home." - theBLOG by British Ceramic Tile

"Pastels aren’t just for nurseries anymore. Remember that there are pastel versions of practically any color. Not just the typical blues, yellows, and pinks that probably come to mind. Try pastel grays, browns, or oranges to step outside of the box!" - Robert Thomas Homes

"Pale yellow and pastel green colors are a nice way to add charm of unique vintage style to home decor. Vintage style is in and a trendy choice for many people. Soft yellow and pastel green colors look fantastic with antique items, creating tender interior design color schemes and romanticize home decorating ideas." - Lushhome

"Pastel shades proved very popular back in the 80’s. Spring colors that were usually only seen once a year became popular in home decor, fashion, make-up. These muted colors were extremely popular in interior design, and were also a favorite fashion trend in the ‘preppy crowd.’" - theBLOG by British Ceramic Tile

"Pastel colors aren’t only for the young or for those with feminine style preferences. The ability to pair navy blue, turquoise and soft air blue in a bedroom bedding combination would make any masculine bedroom come alive. Remember pastel colors help to create depth when combining with bolder patterns and colors. Use them as accents with your other dominant colors or make pastels your focal point." - freshhome

"Pair with White or Bold Colors – White is very clean and bright, especially for home décor. So, pastels and whites are a natural combination for a fresh, pretty space!. However, pastels don’t just look great with white. Experiment putting pastels with other bold colors; hot pink and pastel pink or navy and light blue for example. Remember, when making a statement, be sure to have a balance so as to not overwhelm the room." - Robert Thomas Homes

"Neutral Gray: The gray color is very suitable for the background of the room because gray is a neutral color that matches, or can be combined with any color. For example, one can combine shades of gray for the walls, black charcoal on the door, and grayish-white for the ceiling." - Get Things Done
