GOLD: World Market Trend Report

Regarding another current design trend. . .we haven't seen this much gilted "bling" since the 1980's. When we hit the final decade of the 20th century, we were ready to put aside ALL things associated with the opulent decade that brought us "Dynasty" and "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous." This included GOLD being the choice metallic in fashion and interiors. So, for the past few decades we have exclusively been using the cooler metallics (silver, steel, pewter, chrome). But now, the tides have turned.

"Unexpected textures and an eclectic, modern vibe are about to find their way in 2015. Expect to see a more sophisticated look that incorporates gold hardware," writes Kerrie Kelly, a Zillow Digs design expert. "Homeowners will no longer be limited to silver or stainless steel fixtures, and will feel free to mix and match finish colors, or go bold with all gold."

Elle reported recently that fashion catwalks have gold taking center stage. "If you don’t fancy wearing gold (and we can’t think why on earth not), at least introduce some of it in your home. Take the look from the runway to the hallway, the lounge and the bedroom."

Here is what some designers have recently been saying about this resurrected metallic:

“Gold is the new silver,” - Robert Couturier (New York)

“Mention gold to a client and watch their eyes roll as it brings up gauche associations, but when used with restraint, gold is wonderful and creates impact.” - William Sofield (New York)

“Gold is such a beautiful accent. It’s like jewelry—it can be both refined and glamorous.” - Suzanne Kasler (Atlanta)

“Gold is glamorous. Just a little bit goes a long way.” - Kelly Wearstler (Los Angeles)

Global Views (photo below and first photo at top) is my favorite showroom of

any design marke to visit (Las Vegas is no exception).

Roger Thomas (one of my all time favorite designers who has created the most amazing spaces along the

Vegas Strip) has accessories produced by Studio A (a Global Views company).
