DARK BLUE: World Market Trend Report

Blue has been forecast as being a big color for 2015 (an easy transition from the grey trend we have been experiencing). Even Honda has released their 2015 HRV Blue Trend Car. When car companies commit to a particular color, you know it is not going out of style very soon. Check out the 2015 Kia Plus with indigo blue interior seats in new quilted leather. Blue took a noticeable role on the red carpet at the recent Golden Globes, and the Oscars, especially in menswear.

Previously I blogged about the anticipated design trends that would be showcased at the Las Vegas World Market, one of which was an expectation to see a variety of products, accessories and displays featuring dark blue, and that was immediately realized upon arrival. From walls to furniture to rugs and accent pieces, indigo and inky blues were the norm. (Photos in this blog are from this year's Las Vegas Market.) In fact, I saw this color featured far more than the Pantone color of the year for 2015, Marsala. Blue happens to be a great coordinating color with Marsala. Perry Ellis suggests this combination this season. Speaking of Blue and Marsala, I'm just now noticing that the carpet here in the airport is exactly that color combination.

BLUE is located between violet and green on the optical spectrum. Darker shades of blue include ultramarine, cobalt blue, navy blue, and Prussian blue. A vibrant blue that is being used a lot is known as Greek blue.

Blue will be the most popular accent color for interior decorating, according to the Zillow Digs designers. "Pops of indigo blue or deep navy will become a staple in home design this year, as their deep natural hues become extra vibrant against warm earth tones like Marsala," according to Zillow Digs home design expert, Kerrie Kelly.

“I'm seeing a lot of deep rich blues with a glossy finish—often paired with white for a surprisingly modern twist on a classic.” - Susanna Salk (House Beautiful)

"If you are going to have deep blue walls, you may want to contrast them with pale furniture in off-white. In the same way, if you have a lot of blue furniture in a room, try to add accents that are paler or cream colored to break it up while maintaining a soothing appearance. If you want to go in a different direction though, you can also use dark brown wood to ground blue colors throughout a space." - 295LUV.co

This showroom shows dark blue with gold, another growing trend.
